Abadeh Persian Rugs - Rug Guide
Abadeh rugs originate from the geographical heart of Iran, in the region nestled between the cities of Shiraz and Isfahan. These Persian carpets are synonymous with strength and durability, designed to withstand the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Despite their lower knot density, ranging between 140,000 to 320,000 knots per m², compared to their finer Isfahan or Nain counterparts, Abadeh rugs never compromise on quality.
One of the defining attributes of an Abadeh rug is its predominant red hues, often complemented by the application of a central rosette motif in varying shades of blue. These rugs owe much of their unique design features to the influence of the Ghashgai nomads, who traditionally passed through the region of Abadeh. The Ghashgai brought with them a distinct design language, steeped in natural motifs and rich ornamental detailing. Thus, Abadeh rugs often sport beautiful imageries of animals and plant life, an artistic legacy of the Ghashgai nomads.
